it was neither, but also naruto, it was the character jiraya wrote about, based on minato, hive favourite student at the time, but named naruto, which as you should already know was a name he thought up while eating ramenm whci minato used as the name for his son episode 134-5 i think

The character in Jiraya’s book was based on a conversation he had with Nagato, therefore he came up with the name Naruto. Minato liked the name and the characrer’s ways so much so that he wanted to name his son Naruto. Read the Manga. Remember the fight when one of the Pain’s called Jiraya Sensai? Which means he was a former student/disciple. Remember Jiraya saying how the eyes look the same as Nagato’s, but the body looked like another student he had named Yahiko? He even thought Yahiko stole Nagato’s eyes. Did any of you pay attention to the words? When Jiraya saw Nagato’s Rinnegan, he thought he was the child of prophecy the Elder Toad spoke of. Narutp just placed himself in the books story because he picked up Jiraya’s cause, which was peace for the ninja world.
